Eliotte (Ellie) Hirshberg

Dr. Hirshberg received her medical degree from The University of Utah School of Medicine and completed her combined Internal Medicine and Pediatric residency at Strong Memorial Hospital, at the University of Rochester. She returned to Utah to pursue a combined adult and pediatric critical care fellowship at the University of Utah, and upon completion accepted a faculty position. Dr. Hirshberg is board-certified in Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Adult Critical Care Medicine, Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, critical care Echocardiography, and Hospice and Palliative Medicine.

Dr. Hirshberg currently serves as a Professor at Intermountain Health and in the School of Medicine at the University of Utah. Her primary appointment is in the Division of Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care with an adjunct in the Division of Pediatric Critical Care. As a dedicated practitioner of both adult and pediatric critical care, her specific clinical interests involve investigating the disparities and links between adult and childhood physiology. Her academic interests include qualitative investigation into humanizing the ICU and the patient experience as well as critical care trials in adult and pediatric patients.

Ellie attended medical school with Lodestar founder, Kemia Sarraf. The two physicians have been close friends and colleagues since their first, humor-filled meeting at the University of Utah the day before classes began. Ellie's passion for communication, for community-building and culture change prompted Kemia to call and ask her to join the Lodestar Team as a member of the inaugural Trauma-informed Leadership Coach Training program.

Dr. Hirshberg has been a front-line responder in the COVID pandemic, an extraordinary challenge to both her outstanding clinical skills and exceptional bedside manner. It has also offered ample opportunity for her to put into practice Lodestar Trauma-Mitigation techniques, daily. In addition to her busy professional life, Ellie is an accomplished athlete and avid outdoors-woman who enjoys spending time at the beach and in the mountains with her son and physician husband.
