Dr. Lisa LaFollette Ellis is a women's health internal medicine physician and certified chief wellness officer. Dr Ellis began her career in wellness while serving a 4-year term as Governor for Virginia's American College of Physicians.

At her alma mater, Virginia Commonwealth University, Lisa has held a plethora of appointments, including Chief Medical Officer for the Medical College of Virginia Physicians, Executive Medical Director of Ambulatory Clinics, Executive Director of Community Women's Health, Interim Vice President of Ambulatory Clinics and Operations, and Executive Director of Provider and Trainee Wellness.


For the state of Virginia, she recently won an inaugural Vivian Pinn Award for Leadership in Women's Health and a Laureate Award. Other notable awards include the Arthur Klein Award for Humanism, voted upon by her peers, the Foundations of Clinical Medicine Teaching award, and the VCU Dean's Award for Leadership. She has also been recognized for her Excellence in Professional Service, an Exceptional Mentor award from the American Medical Women’s Association, and was named a Master Clinician by the American College of Physicians.


Lisa has been avidly engaged in facilitating leadership training, and Trauma-Mitigation coaching and has been an active speaker and facilitator across the country and locally. She is currently the co-PI for a 1.5-million-dollar grant reviewing leadership skills and the impact on psychological safety, inclusivity, and retention. Areas such as psychological safety, diverse

recruitment and retention, and improved cultures of value and respect are deeply woven into her sustainable, structured, coaching and wellness program development.

Lisa has been avidly engaged in facilitating leadership training, and wellness coaching

Crucial Conversations facilitator and, most notably, a Trauma Mitigation Professional Coach

trained by Lodestar Coaching. She is currently the Co-PI for a 1.5-million-dollar grant reviewing

leadership skills and the impact on psychological safety, inclusivity, and retention.


Lisa brings compassion to the table to help individuals and teams change to

• develop new behaviors,

• communicate with clarity and with widened perceptions,

• and mitigate through difficult and overwhelming issues.


Personally, Dr. Ellis’s beloved husband is a dermatopathologist, and they have two adult

sons. She is an avid archer, and trained vocalist and throws a "mean" set of horseshoes.
